When you start to get interested in something, you often find out that there are millions of little parts and things that you have to figure out about the topic. For example, if you want to learn how to make the best rolls, you realize that there is a certain temperature for each kind of roll, many different types of flour alone that you can use, and tons of little tricks to make the best ones. The same is true for gardening. You can learn so much about gardening and all the little tips that you can do.

One tip for gardening is learning how to propagate plants. Propagating plants is basically using a plant and creating a different type of plant using the old plant. You can create a new type of plant using another plant. It is a great way to come up with your own sort of plant and style for your own house without having to hire a professional and spend thousands of dollars. It sounds a little confusing but once you learn a little more about it you understand what it is.

There are two main methods of propagating a house plant. One is through any sort of sexual propagation and the other is through asexual propagation. They are also known as seed propagation and vegetative propagation. There are many different ways to propagate a plant sexually and asexually. Let’s look at some of them.

If you decide to use sexual propagation, realize that you will probably have a lot of different results. You use the genes from two plants, unite genes, and get a bunch of different results.

Ferns are one of the easiest house plants to propagate sexually. You can use their spores instead of their seeds. Most wooded plant seeds don’t need to be kept chilled, but check on your specific plant before you start. Use a container with drainage holes. Use peat moss and sand, using the same amount of both. When planting the seeds, plant only a few. Don’t try to completely engulf the container. They need room. They also need enough oxygen or they won’t be able to grow. Don’t cover seeds that are very fine and small. Large seeds should be covered deep and probably about a couple inches depending on the size of the seed. Let the seeds grow until their first leaves appear. Then you know it’s time to move them. Take them out carefully and hold them by the roots and dirt. Plant them in the new container that you are using, and use a good amount of water.

One of the most popular ways to asexually propagate a plant is to use a method called separation and division. All you do is get the main plant, cut or pull the plant apart with some of the roots still attached. Plant the parts that you cut in a new pot. There are lots of ways to cut the plant and each plant requires something different.

When you propagate a plant you are replanting and making something different. If you are thinking about propagating a plant, make sure you find exact instructions for your specific plant.
